Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution and patience as Antigua and Barbuda braces for a sharp increase in traffic activity linked to a surge in cruise arrivals over the next two days.

More than 20,000 cruise passengers are expected to arrive, a development officials say will significantly increase traffic volumes, particularly in and around the cruise port, Heritage Quay, and nearby commercial districts in St. John’s.

The anticipated influx is also expected to place added pressure on the road network as taxi operators, delivery drivers, and public transport providers increase operations to meet demand. Police are urging all road users to exercise patience, courtesy, and respect for traffic regulations during the busy period.

The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda says officers will maintain a visible presence at key locations, enforce traffic laws, and closely monitor high-risk behaviour as part of ongoing holiday safety operations.

Motorists are reminded that responsible driving is critical to easing congestion and preventing accidents. Authorities stress that simple actions, such as obeying speed limits, avoiding double parking, and remaining attentive, can help reduce the risk of serious injuries and save lives during what should be a season of celebration.

    • Happy to see tourists coming, but somebody needs to manage the traffic better. It can’t be chaos every time ships come in
