The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission is urging eligible voters to renew their Voter Identification Cards and register early, warning against waiting until an election is announced to complete the process.
In a Christmas message issued this week, the Commission thanked citizens, political parties and independent candidates for their cooperation throughout 2025, noting that public confidence remains essential to maintaining the integrity of the country’s democratic system.
Chairman Arthur G. B. Thomas said safeguarding democracy is a shared responsibility that depends on informed participation, public trust and respect for electoral rules.
He encouraged all eligible voters to take advantage of the Voter Identification Card Renewal Programme and the Continuing Registration Programme, stressing that early action helps ensure a smooth and efficient electoral process.
“Waiting until an election is called places unnecessary strain on the system,” the Commission cautioned, adding that timely registration and ID renewal are critical to preserving the credibility and efficiency of elections.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, service and excellence, and said it remains focused on strengthening the country’s democratic institutions through ongoing public engagement and administrative readiness.
The message concluded with holiday greetings to the nation, extending wishes for a peaceful Christmas season and a New Year marked by continued civic responsibility and democratic participation
