Keithroy ‘De Bear’ Morson, reclaimed the Montserrat Calypso Monarch title at the 2025 finals

Keithroy ‘De Bear’ Morson, a calypso icon in Antigua and Barbuda, has reclaimed the Montserrat Calypso Monarch title at the 2025 finals, scoring a commanding 889 points.

De Bear’s winning performance of his composition “Gi Dem Licks” also earned him crowd favorite and most melodious song honors at the competition, one of the highlights of Montserrat’s annual cultural calendar.

The victory marks De Bear’s return to the calypso throne after sitting out last year’s competition to focus on soca, which he won in 2024. His absence had allowed Garnett ‘Sylk’ Thompson to claim the 2024 calypso crown.

Ten finalists competed in this year’s finals, delivering performances blending social commentary, wit, and musical craftsmanship.

Kenzie finished as first runner-up with 840 points, while Sylk—the defending champion—claimed second runner-up honors with 806 points. Maggie D placed fourth with 799 points, narrowly missing the podium.

De Bear’s successful week extended beyond calypso, as he also captured the Groovy segment of the 2025 Montserrat Soca Monarch competition just days earlier. In that contest, Maggie D placed first runner-up in the Groovy category, while Kenzie took second runner-up honors.

The veteran performer, who holds titles across both Antigua and Montserrat, continues to dominate the regional calypso scene with his seventh Montserrat monarch victory.
