V. C. Bird International Airport has recorded a strong operational performance as global airline traffic surges into the New Year, marking a robust start to the 2025/2026 winter tourism season and placing increased demand on regional airports.
Airports across the Caribbean are reporting elevated passenger volumes, and Antigua and Barbuda’s main gateway is no exception. Last Monday was another peak operational day at V. C. Bird International, closely mirroring activity from the previous Saturday, when airport officials processed 14 international flights in a single day.

Despite the unprecedented traffic, travellers are reporting a positive and efficient customer experience. Among them were Mr. and Mrs. Cheeloy, visitors who recently enjoyed a week-long winter getaway at Jolly Beach Resort.
“We saw the planes passing over (the hotel in recent days) very frequently, and some even circling. We thought we would experience long lines when we got to the airport for our departure,” the couple said.
Instead, they noted that the experience was seamless. “Our transition through the terminal was very smooth and efficient,” they added.
Tourism and aviation officials say the strong start to the season reflects growing international confidence in Antigua and Barbuda’s world-famous beaches, attractions and customer-focused service, an experience that begins the moment visitors arrive at the airport and shapes their lasting impression of the destination.

With heavy international passenger traffic expected to resume today, Friday, January 2, and continue through the weekend of January 11, passengers are being advised to arrive at the airport no less than two hours before departure to ensure smooth processing.
Travellers are also encouraged to check with their respective airlines for additional travel tips and up-to-date information related to operations at V. C. Bird International Airport.
