Government officials attend National Service of Thanksgiving and Prayer, held at the St John’s Pentecostal House of Restoration
Antigua and Barbuda paused at the start of the new year for reflection and gratitude during the National Service of Thanksgiving and Prayer, held at the St John’s Pentecostal House of Restoration.
Addressing the congregation, greetings were extended on behalf of His Excellency the Governor-General, Sir Rodney Williams, and Lady Williams, who are currently overseas. The message conveyed their prayers and well wishes for the nation and for all gathered for the sacred observance.
The service brought together the Prime Minister Gaston Browne, members of Cabinet and Parliament, the Diplomatic Corps, senior public servants, and worshippers from across the country, with many joining via live broadcast.
In remarks delivered during the service, emphasis was placed on the theme of survival and resilience in the face of ongoing challenges. The past year, congregants were reminded, unfolded amid global conflict, economic strain, and uncertainty, pressures that have also been felt within Antigua and Barbuda through environmental concerns, economic realities, and the daily anxieties facing households and communities.
“Yet, by God’s grace, we are still here,” the address noted, highlighting the nation’s continued progress, community cohesion, and the resilience and generosity of its people.
Special recognition was given to families, churches, public servants, healthcare workers, first responders, and others whose often-unseen service continues to strengthen the social fabric of the country.
The message also underscored the importance of faith and prayer as sustaining forces, drawing on Scripture to affirm God as a source of refuge and strength in difficult times.
A personal reflection encouraged citizens to demonstrate gratitude through care for their surroundings, calling on communities to take pride in maintaining clean, orderly, and litter-free environments as a visible expression of respect for the blessings they enjoy.
The address further urged Antiguans and Barbudans to take advantage of educational opportunities, particularly through the University of the West Indies, stressing that education and certification remain critical to personal advancement and national development.
As the country steps into 2026, the congregation was encouraged to recommit to love, respect, and consideration for one another, with special attention to the elderly and to vulnerable groups, including those living with mental illness or experiencing homelessness.
The service concluded with prayers for wisdom for national leaders, patience and understanding within communities, and unity among the people, as Antigua and Barbuda faces the year ahead with faith and hope.
