The Agricultural Extension Division within the Ministry of Agriculture has taken another step toward improving efficiency and sustainability with the distribution of electronic bicycles to key government agencies and agricultural out-stations.
The distribution took place between Monday, January 5, and Tuesday, January 6, and forms part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to strengthen mobility and operational capacity across the agricultural sector and partner institutions.
The electronic bicycles were allocated to:
• Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force
• Antigua and Barbuda College of Advanced Studies, where the bicycle will support activities at the newly established School of Agriculture in Glanvilles
• Several Ministry out-stations, including the new Crop Research and Development Station at Bethesda
According to the Ministry, the bicycles will assist agricultural officers, farmers, and staff in conducting field visits, monitoring crops and livestock, and carrying out daily operational tasks more effectively, particularly within station and farm environments.
Recipients welcomed the initiative, noting that the addition of the electronic bicycles will significantly enhance their ability to transport produce, animal feed, and equipment in a timely and efficient manner, while also reducing reliance on fuel-powered vehicles.
The Ministry of Agriculture said the initiative reflects its commitment to innovative and environmentally friendly solutions that support service delivery, improve productivity, and contribute to national development across the agricultural sector.

The electronic bicycles were donated through the generosity of the People’s Government of Hainan Province, People’s Republic of China, via the Antigua and Barbuda Chinese Embassy, underscoring continued cooperation between Antigua and Barbuda and China in sustainable development initiatives.

Good stuff. I just hope I don’t see the bikes parked outside supermarkets and clubs or at the beach. Just saying
