Alvin O’Brien of Parham

A 25-year-old man from Parham has been arrested and formally charged following an alleged larceny incident at Ffryes Beach, according to police reports.

The accused, Alvin O’Brien, is alleged to have unlawfully entered a parked vehicle while it was left unattended at the popular west-coast beach.

Police say the vehicle’s owner had parked and gone to the beach, leaving her handbag on the front passenger seat.

Investigators report that the suspect was later observed at the driver’s side door, with part of his body inside the vehicle. After an alarm was raised, the suspect reportedly fled the scene in a silver motor car.

Officers assigned to the Bolans Police Station responded promptly and intercepted the vehicle shortly thereafter. O’Brien was arrested and taken into custody.

Police say he has since been charged with larceny and is expected to appear in court next week to answer the allegations.

The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda has again urged members of the public to exercise caution when parking at beaches and other public spaces.

Residents and visitors are strongly advised not to leave handbags, electronic devices, or other valuables inside vehicles, even for short periods.

Police administration officials say public vigilance remains critical in reducing theft and other criminal activity, and they continue to encourage cooperation between communities and law enforcement as investigations and crime-prevention efforts continue across the island.
