The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda examined public anxiety surrounding reports that some nationals may be required to post refundable visa bonds when applying for U.S. visitor visas.
The government clarified that existing U.S. visa holders are not affected, the bond applies only to a very narrow category of new applicants under a pilot programme, and the bond neither guarantees nor denies visa approval.
Cabinet noted that Antigua and Barbuda was not given advance notice of the U.S. announcement, a move that contributed to confusion both locally and regionally.
While acknowledging that a small number of nationals have overstayed or incurred unpaid public expenses abroad, Cabinet emphasized that Antigua and Barbuda maintains a low overstay rate and a strong record of cooperation with U.S. authorities.
On the Prime Minister’s instructions, formal diplomatic engagement has been initiated at the highest levels, including the submission of a diplomatic note, with the Government seeking fair and equal treatment for Antiguan and Barbudan passport holders.

I keep hearing about narrow category. So what is the narrow category
Still not right though. Even a ‘pilot programme’ feels like Antigua being singled out again.
The US should have notified governments beforehand. This confusion was avoidable
Stop the sale of passports! This problem could be solved a long time ago!
If existing visa holders aren’t affected, then social media really blew this out of proportion.
