n a major step toward strengthening disaster resilience, the Cabinet approved a request from the National Office of Disaster Services to establish District Disaster Command Centres (DDCCs) on designated Crown lands nationwide.
The centres, constructed from reinforced cargo containers, will serve as secure hubs for emergency coordination, volunteer mobilization, and community-level disaster response. The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency.
Cabinet approved locations across multiple districts, including police stations, clinics, schools, and disaster offices in both Antigua and Barbuda, significantly enhancing decentralized emergency readiness.
Government officials say the move will improve response times, strengthen community coordination, and better protect lives and property during hurricanes and other natural hazards.
