Church at Cooks Extension Broken Into, Thousands in Equipment Stolen

Police are investigating a major break-in at Ministry Center, after thieves made off with musical and audio equipment valued in the thousands of dollars.

The incident is believed to have occurred sometime over a two-day period while the church was unattended. According to police reports, the offenders forced open a bathroom door to gain access to the building, before moving into the sanctuary and hall area.

Once inside, the thieves removed several speakers, a smart television, a transformer, electrical cords, and a tripod. Investigators say the perpetrators exited through the same point of entry used to gain access.

The matter has been classified as sacrilege, a charge applied to crimes committed against places of worship, reflecting the seriousness with which authorities view offences targeting religious institutions.

Members of the congregation have expressed shock and disappointment over the incident, noting that churches are meant to be safe spaces for worship and community gathering. The break-in has also raised wider concerns about security at community institutions, particularly those left unoccupied during the week.

Police are continuing investigations and are appealing to anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the Cooks Extension area or who has information about the stolen equipment to come forward.
