The Interact Clubs of Rotary District 7030 have generously contributed more than 150 books to the Antigua and Barbuda Public Library, enhancing access to educational and cultural resources for both students and the wider community.
Presentation Event
The book presentation occurred at the Antigua and Barbuda Public Library, spearheaded by the District RYLA Chair along with local Interact Clubs, including:
- Antigua Grammar School & Antigua Girls’ High School Interact Club
- St. Anthony’s Secondary School Interact Club
- Christ the King High School Interact Club
- Antigua State College Interact Club
The books were gathered through a regional community service initiative named Books Across Borders, which formed part of the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) held in November 2025.
Regional Participation
Over 13 territories participated in this project, with youth delegates from countries ranging from Antigua to Suriname. Each territory contributed books as a representation of regional cooperation and youth-led service. The collection features titles on local and regional history, folk tales, and tourism.
Remarks from RYLA Chair
In her speech, RYLA Chair Evangeline Allen, representing District Governor Soraya Warner-Gustave and the RYLA participants, highlighted the initiative’s embodiment of a shared belief in the transformative power of education. She remarked, “Each book you see here today has travelled across borders, physically and culturally, to reach this library,” and further noted, “By donating these books, we are not only sharing resources, but we are sharing encouragement, opportunity, and connection.”
She also underscored that this project reflects Rotary’s dedication to literacy, education, and service, showcasing the spirit of young people leading with purpose and global awareness.
Library Director’s Appreciation
Ms. R. Mannix, Director of the Antigua and Barbuda Public Library, welcomed the donation and expressed that these books will make a significant addition to the library’s collection. She emphasized that the contribution will greatly support the library’s mission of providing and promoting open access to information resources, fostering lifelong learning, and continuing to enhance literacy. She conveyed her gratitude for the initiative and for the efforts of the District 7030 student representatives who made this project a reality.
The Books Across Borders initiative serves as a tangible example of youth leadership in action and the power of regional cooperation to create enduring community impact.
