Newly appointed Government Senator Kiz Johnson and Independent Senator Jamilla Kirwan will travel to Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday to participate in a series of regional meetings focused on advancing women’s leadership in politics.
The meetings are being coordinated by ParlAmericas in partnership with organizations in Trinidad and Tobago and will build on ongoing regional efforts to support women in public life.

One of the main sessions opens on Wednesday and will bring together female parliamentarians to address technology-facilitated gender-based violence against women in public office. The forum, titled “Catalysing Regional Action on Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence Against Women in Public Life: Supporting Parliamentary Action,” is being held in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).

According to organizers, the meeting will share findings from recent research and encourage collaborative work on practical tools that parliamentarians and other political actors can use to help end online abuse and harassment targeting women in leadership.

Parliamentary delegates attending the forum are also invited to participate in a day of engagement with young women leaders on January 22, 2026. This session marks the start of an in-person Young Women in Leadership Regional Workshop, organized with support from UN Women Caribbean and the Caribbean Institute for Women in Leadership (CIWiL).

The workshop will bring together former participants from young women’s parliamentary programmes in Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago, with a focus on mentorship, shared experiences, and strengthening regional networks among women leaders.
