Antigua and Barbuda is among the countries participating in the India International Conference on Democracy and Election Management (IICDEM) 2026, with Chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC), His Excellency Ambassador Arthur G. B. Thomas, and Supervisor of Elections, Mr. Ian S. Hughes, representing the twin-island state.

The three-day conference opened on January 21 and concludes on January 23 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, India. It is being convened by the Election Commission of India through the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM), in collaboration with International IDEA, as part of India’s Chairship of the Council of Member States of International IDEA.

IICDEM 2026 has brought together more than 40 Election Management Bodies and representatives from over 30 countries, along with diplomats, senior election officials, academics, and electoral experts. The forum provides an opportunity for participants to exchange ideas and best practices on election administration and democratic governance in an increasingly complex global environment.

This year’s conference is being held under the theme, “Democracy for an Inclusive, Peaceful, Resilient and Sustainable World,” highlighting the importance of strengthening democratic institutions, safeguarding electoral integrity, and maintaining public trust amid rapid political and technological change.

Antigua and Barbuda’s participation underscores its ongoing commitment to democratic principles and international cooperation in electoral management, as the country continues to engage with global partners to enhance the transparency and effectiveness of its electoral processes.
