The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has authorized the immediate hiring of 100 new law enforcement personnel, which includes 50 police officers and 50 soldiers.
This announcement was made by Maurice Merchant, the Director General of Communications in the Prime Minister’s Office, during the weekly post-cabinet press briefing.

According to Merchant, this initiative aims to strengthen the operational capacity of both the Royal Police Force (RPF) and the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF). The goal is to enhance their effectiveness and capability to safeguard the nation’s citizens.
The decision comes on the heels of a briefing provided to the Cabinet by senior officials from the RPF and ABDF concerning national security issues. The presentation was delivered by Commissioner of Police Everton Jeffers, Deputy Commissioner Louise Benjamin-Quashie, Defence Chief of Staff Brigadier Telbert Benjamin, and Captain Trevor Pennyfeather of the ABDF.
Merchant indicated that the Cabinet was informed about the nation’s current security situation, including ongoing efforts to combat criminal activity. He elaborated that the recruitment of new law enforcement personnel is part of a “strengthened national response” in addressing crime and security threats.
“This decision reflects government’s firm commitment, and a statement that the Prime Minister has been making time and time again – that law enforcement officials will be taking the fight to criminals,” said Merchant.
Qualified individuals are encouraged to apply immediately to the relevant agencies.

We need about 500 hundred new police officers. The population is growing rapidly and crimes are increasing too.
Finally! We’ve been calling for more boots on the ground. You can’t police a growing country with the same numbers from years ago. Also we need to delete them old eggs in the force.
My cousin joined. COngrats to him.
More officers won’t fix crime if corruption and poor discipline still exist
Congrats to them. Hoping this mean a firm grip on crime in Antigua and Barbuda
