New Dominican Republic Consul General Julio Cesar Mateo Baez (middle)
The Dominican Republic diaspora in Antigua and Barbuda is welcoming a new Consul General following the departure of outgoing envoy Joaquin Lopez Diaz last week.
Julio Cesar Mateo Baez—also known as Yulyn—has officially taken up the role, pledging to prioritize service to the sizeable Dominican Republic community while strengthening bilateral relations between Dominican Republic and Antigua and Barbuda.
Speaking on his objectives, Consul General Mateo Baez described Antigua and Barbuda as a valued partner, praising the country’s hardworking and dedicated people. He expressed satisfaction with the longstanding relationship between the two nations and encouraged Dominican nationals living locally to be positive ambassadors for their homeland.
He urged members of the Dominican community to uphold high standards of conduct and to respect the laws of their host country, noting that their actions contribute to how the Dominican Republic is perceived abroad.
In the coming weeks, the new Consul General is expected to hold courtesy calls with senior government officials in St. John’s to exchange greetings and discuss matters of mutual interest.
His first official engagement will take place this Sunday, when he attends a special service at Holy Family Cathedral marking the Bridging of Altagracia, a significant religious and cultural observance for the people of the Dominican Republic.
