The Cabinet has sanctioned the transfer of two male juvenile inmates currently held at His Majesty’s Prison to the Denis Bowers Rehabilitation Center, previously known as the Boys Training School.

According to Cabinet Spokesperson Maurice Merchant, this proposal was put forward by Attorney General Sir Steadroy Benjamin following consultations with officials from His Majesty’s Prison.

The decision, as he explains, comes after an evaluation directed by the Cabinet regarding the rehabilitation center’s suitability to accommodate the juveniles.

“The assessment identified specific areas requiring attention, to ensure the safety, the security, and suitability of the environment for occupancy by these two juveniles,” explained Merchant.

He notes that this is designed to foster a setting focused on care, safety, and healthy development for the juveniles. Towards this end, the provision of meals has also been arranged for the young men in question.

Merchant has stated that the prison is to keep the responsibility for supervision of the juveniles at the Denis Bowers Rehabilitation Center facility.

The decision reflects a broader commitment to enhancing collaboration between His Majesty’s Prison and the Denis Bowers Rehabilitation Center.

“Cabinet approved measures to strengthen transportation and emergency response coordination between the Denis Bowers Rehabilitation Center and His Majesty’s Prison, recognizing the importance of timely response and effective operational support,” explained Merchant.

Merchant noted that this work is part of a broader national commitment to helping youth rebuild their lives and improving correctional and social support systems.

  5. Also boys training school is not a prison so the juveniles who are supposed to be in JAIL will leave that center. Look at how many boys left that place and went to spree and returned.
