CIBC Caribbean has marked World Cancer Day with a record-breaking donation of EC$177,000 to support cancer care and advocacy in Antigua and Barbuda.

The presentation was made on Wednesday, February 4, during a ceremony at the Royalton CHIC Hotel, benefiting Breast Friends and the Oncology Department at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.

CIBC Caribbean Country Manager Ladesa James-Williams handed over the funds to Breast Friends President Michelle Lynch and SLBMC Marketing Manager Salma Crump.

James-Williams explained that the donation is the result of a long-running series of fundraising initiatives led by the bank, beginning years ago with Walk for a Cure and expanding to include Jam for a Cure, Raffle for a Cure, and Gala for a Cure. These events, she said, continue to receive strong backing from both the corporate sector and the wider public.

In 2024, the initiatives raised EC$105,000, but in 2025 the bank deliberately set out to surpass that figure—and succeeded.

The total donation will be shared equally between Breast Friends and the SLBMC Oncology Department. Both recipients expressed heartfelt gratitude to CIBC Caribbean, praising not only the size of the contribution but the bank’s sustained commitment to supporting those affected by one of society’s most devastating diseases.
