MP Kelvin ‘Shugy’ Simon

MP Kelvin ‘Shugy’ Simon has announced a new clean‑up initiative at Ffryes Beach, saying it was launched by a community group he formed with residents who “care deeply about keeping the area tidy.”

He shared that they plan more projects soon and hope to grow their support network. Simon criticized the condition of the roadside after recent utility work, noting it now “narrows into a one‑way in some areas,” and urged the government to repair it.

“At some points going down to Ffryes, it becomes a one-way, because the road is now narrow because of the work that APUA did there,” explained Simon. “Visiting that area on a regular basis, I realized there was a need for it to be kept cleaned, the bushes cut back, and so on. So we went and we executed.”

The team has also revitalized the worn welcome sign at the beach, which the MP noted was in need of a refresh.

Additionally, plans are in progress to plant flowers and design a space that both locals and tourists can appreciate.

Clearing the area, Simon said, also helps safety, since “no one wants people hiding in bushes along the road.”

He described the effort as “good for businesses, good for visitors, and good for the community.”
