Media professionals across the Caribbean are being encouraged to register for the upcoming MIC–IFEX–ACM Journalist Safety & Protection Series: Safety in Practice, a five-part virtual training programme aimed at strengthening safety awareness and practical skills in an increasingly complex media landscape.
The series will run from February to March 2026, with sessions hosted online via Zoom from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (AST). Organisers say the initiative is designed to place journalist safety at the forefront, equipping participants with practical tools and real-world strategies to navigate risks both in the field and online.
The programme will cover a broad range of topics critical to modern reporting. Sessions include Physical Safety and Risk Assessment, Digital Security and Online Harassment, Legal Rights and Frameworks: Media Safety Essentials, Psychosocial Support and Resilience Building, and Equity, Inclusion and Collaboration.
At a time when journalists face growing threats ranging from online abuse to physical intimidation, the organisers note that building awareness and preparedness is essential. The training will be facilitated by experienced regional and international experts who will provide guidance that participants can apply immediately in their day-to-day work.
Beyond skills development, the series also aims to foster stronger networks among media workers across the region. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with colleagues, share experiences, and discuss common challenges facing Caribbean journalism.
Participation in the training is free of charge, but advance registration is required. Interested journalists can sign up online at:
