Prime Minister Gaston Browne and visiting Deputy Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa
Antigua and Barbuda has reaffirmed its strong diplomatic support for Uganda following high-level discussions between Prime Minister Gaston Browne and visiting Deputy Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa.
During a courtesy call, Prime Minister Browne extended congratulations to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on his recent electoral victory, describing the outcome as a renewed mandate reflecting public confidence in his leadership. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Antigua and Barbuda’s continued support for Uganda on the international stage.
Discussions centered on strengthening political cooperation and expanding bilateral engagement. Both sides emphasized deeper collaboration between the Caribbean and Africa through increased people-to-people exchanges, tourism partnerships, education linkages, and technical cooperation.
Prime Minister Browne highlighted opportunities for hospitality training, university student exchanges, and tourism development initiatives, noting Antigua and Barbuda’s willingness to share expertise from its established tourism sector.
The leaders also underscored Uganda’s leadership within the Non-Aligned Movement and its active role at the United Nations, particularly in climate advocacy and multilateral diplomacy.
A key point of discussion was the existing visa-exempt travel arrangement between the two countries, which allows citizens of both nations to travel visa-free for short stays. The Prime Minister said the arrangement creates opportunities for greater mobility, business engagement, and investment flows between the two nations.
The meeting concluded with mutual expressions of goodwill and a shared commitment to advancing cooperation in areas such as sustainable development, climate resilience, and South–South collaboration.

The PM is really trying hard to deepen our ties with the African nation and he’s doing a great job
We welcome our brothers from Uganda
Tourism training with Uganda? That could be interesting. We have plenty experience in hospitality to share
Big move! 🇦🇬 Antigua small but we making strong international links. Africa and Caribbean connection important!
I am happy to see the shift from the US and Europe and the focus is on Africa. With the way America treats us now i dont think we should even think of doing business there
America is cutting ties with the world. we shouldn’t even second guess sending our business and putting our focus elsewhere
I agree with all the comments here., Let us try to embrace AFRICA
It is time to go back to our roots
