King Charles III has released a statement following the arrest of his younger brother, the former Prince Andrew (Daily News)
In response to the astonishing developments earlier today – when Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested as part of an on-going investigation being carried out in relation to the former prince’s relationship and possible criminal activities connected to Jeffrey Epstein – there has been a statement released by his brother, King Charles III.
It was confirmed by Buckingham Palace that His Majesty was NOT pre-warned about the arrest of his sibling and only became aware of the situation AFTER the action has been taken by officers from Thames Valley Police.
The monarch put out an unprecedented statement expressing his “deepest concern” but stressing that “the law must take its course” after his younger brother was held on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
The full statement read: “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.
“In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course.
“As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all. Charles R.”
Although the Prince and Princess of Wales have not made any statement at this point, it is understood that they fully support The King’s stance.
The former Duke of York’s properties continue to be searched whilst he remains under arrest. He can be held without charge for 24 hours from the moment he arrived at a police station, although his precise location is not known and it is thought that it will be kept secret for the duration of his time in custody.
A separate statement has been released by the family of Virginia Giuffre – the woman who alleged she had been sexually assaulted by the former prince, which tragically led to her taking her own life in April last year, aged 41.
She had alleged that she had been trafficked to Andrew by Epstein, but had reached an out of court settlement, reported to have been worth £12 million in 2022.
They said: “At last, today our broken hearts have been lifted with the news that no one is above the law – not even royalty. On behalf of our sister, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, we extend our gratitude to the UK’s Thames Valley Police in their investigation, and the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
“He was never a prince and for survivors everywhere, Virginia did this for you.”
It should be made clear that Mr Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest is not linked to any of the previous allegations made by Ms Giuffre and also reiterate that he has consistently denied all wrongdoing.
