Cuban technicians return home after one year engagement with APUA
Seven Cuban technical specialists have completed a one-year assignment with the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA), marking the end of a collaborative effort aimed at strengthening water and electricity services in Antigua and Barbuda.
The team, attached to Cuba’s Collaboration Brigade, returned to Havana last Friday following the conclusion of their deployment. During their tenure, three engineers were assigned to APUA’s Water Business Unit while four supported the Electricity Business Unit, working closely with local engineers and technical staff to enhance operational efficiency and service delivery.
In a statement, the Cuban Embassy said the technicians worked side-by-side with Antiguan and Barbudan personnel, contributing to government programmes designed to improve the quality and reliability of essential utility services across the country.
The Embassy also expressed gratitude to APUA’s leadership, including General Manager John Bradshaw and senior managers within both business units, as well as Melford Nicholas, Minister of Information, Communication Technologies, Utilities and Energy, for their continued support throughout the assignment.
Cuba further reaffirmed its willingness to provide ongoing cooperation and technical assistance to Antigua and Barbuda in areas identified as national priorities, underscoring the longstanding diplomatic and developmental ties between the two countries.

Strong partnerships should lead to stronger infrastructure
One year goes by quickly. I would love to see a public report outlining exactly what improvements were made during their tenure.
