A mild earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale was recorded approximately 146 kilometres from Saint John’s, Antigua and Barbuda this afternoon, according to automatic detection data released by the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI-SRC).
The tremor struck at 2:07 pm local time on Monday, March 2, 2026, with its epicenter located at latitude 17.92°N, longitude 62.89°W, at a depth of approximately 55 kilometres.
The nearest major population centre to the epicenter was Basseterre, the capital of Saint Kitts and Nevis, located 71 kilometres to the south-southeast. Brades, Montserrat also lay approximately 146 kilometres from the epicenter, in the same range as Saint John’s.
The UWI-SRC cautioned that the location was automatically calculated by computer algorithms and remains preliminary, pending review and verification by seismic analysts. Revised data may be issued following further evaluation.

While there are no reports of damage, every tremor reminds us how vulnerable small islands can be to seismic events. Infrastructure must be maintained to withstand potential earthquakes.
Even though Saint John’s wasn’t at the epicenter, the fact that tremors were detected here is concerning. Preparedness is always better than panic.
We have to be mindful that thse shakings could signify more massive shakings to come
Dont ignore these things people
A sign of things to come
Just small earth movements nothing to worry about.
I hope nobody making jokes about these things’
