It has been almost five years since 25-year-old Neltha Telemaque was found brutally murdered in the Burma Quarry area on December 5, 2021, and yet the nation is still without answers. How is it that in a country as small as ours, a young woman can be killed so violently and we are no closer to justice today than we were on that shocking Sunday morning?

We all remember how it unfolded. A livestock farmer discovered her body around 7:17 a.m. The day before, her fiancé had taken to social media claiming she was missing. Within hours of the body being found, police issued a wanted bulletin for Kevin Samuel of All Saints. By 2 p.m. that same day, he had surrendered himself at the St John’s Police Station. Neltha’s fiancé, Nehemiah Tittle, was also reportedly taken into custody.

And then what?

Both men were released within roughly 72 hours. No charges. No clear explanation to the public. We were told investigations were ongoing. We were told this did not mean the matter was over. Nearly five years later, what has come of that investigation?

What led police to issue a wanted bulletin for Kevin Samuel so quickly? What evidence or intelligence made him a person of interest in the first place? If there was sufficient concern to publicly name him within hours of the body being found, what changed so dramatically within three days that warranted his release? Were key pieces of evidence lost? Were statements inconsistent? Did forensic results rule him out and if so, why has that never been clearly communicated?

And what about the fiancé? He was the one who reported her missing on social media. When exactly was she last seen alive, and by whom? Where was she last known to be? Were investigators able to verify his account of events in the hours leading up to her disappearance? Was his phone data examined? Were surveillance cameras reviewed? Were there any documented reports of conflict in the relationship? Were investigators able to establish a clear timeline of her final movements?

Her brother publicly stated that, based on the injuries, it appeared “personal.” That is a chilling statement. If it was personal, then someone in her immediate circle likely knows more than they have said. Were all close associates thoroughly questioned? Were polygraph tests ever administered? Were there other suspects who have never been named publicly?

Five years is a long time. Has this case gone cold? Is there an active investigative team still assigned to it? Have forensic samples been re-tested with newer technology? Was DNA recovered from the scene? If so, has it been matched to anyone? Was the crime scene properly preserved and processed? Were there witnesses in the Burma Quarry area that morning or the night before who were interviewed?

Why has there been no meaningful public update? In a small nation, transparency builds trust. Silence breeds doubt. The longer this case drags on without answers, the more the public begins to wonder whether mistakes were made in the early stages of the investigation, mistakes that cannot now be undone.

Neltha Telemaque was described as kind, loving, adventurous, a young woman who worked at a health food store and worshiped at Bethel Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was not just a headline. She was someone’s only sister. Someone’s daughter. Someone’s fiancée.

Her funeral in January 2022 was filled with tears and tributes. But closure cannot come without truth. Her family has been forced to grieve without justice. How is that fair? How is that acceptable?

We are not asking for speculation. We are asking for accountability. Where does this case stand today? Are there suspects? Are there persons still under investigation? Has the file been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions at any point? What exactly is preventing charges from being laid?

Five years later, these questions remain and they deserve answers. Justice delayed is justice denied.
