Sir Lester Bird Medical Center

The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) has launched an investigation into a troubling incident involving threatening behavior directed at healthcare workers inside the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), raising renewed concerns about the safety of frontline medical staff.

Hospital officials confirmed that the probe began immediately after the incident was formally reported, triggering the facility’s established safety and security protocols.

In a strongly worded statement, SLBMC reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward threats, violence, intimidation, or harassment against healthcare workers, stressing that medical professionals must be able to perform their duties in an environment that is safe, respectful, and free from fear.

“The safety and well-being of our staff is non-negotiable,” the hospital emphasized.

The incident reportedly occurred within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, one of the hospital’s most sensitive and specialized departments, where doctors and nurses care for critically ill newborns while supporting families during some of the most emotionally difficult moments of their lives.

Hospital administrators underscored that the NICU must remain a secure and supportive space — not only for the vulnerable infants receiving treatment but also for the healthcare teams entrusted with their care.

While officials have declined to disclose details about the nature of the threat or the individuals involved, SLBMC said the matter is being treated with the highest level of seriousness.

The hospital is urging the public to respect the work of healthcare professionals, reminding the community that acts of aggression or intimidation toward medical staff will not be tolerated.

SLBMC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe environment across all departments as it continues its mission of delivering safe, compassionate and high-quality care to every patient who enters its doors.

  1. I don’t understand how somebody could go in a NICU and behave threatening. That ward is for tiny babies fighting for life

  3. So did one or more of the staff members behave rudely and insensitivly towards an already stressed and worried parent promoting said parent to want to kick the sh*t out of them? Just wondering since details are so vague.

  4. Too many people believe they can bully healthcare workers. These nurses and doctors already under pressure and then have to deal with threats too. Something serious needs to be done

  5. Unfortunately this is nothing new. Some people go to the hospital already frustrated and take it out on the nurses and doctors. That NICU is for babies fighting for their lives people need to control themselves
