As part of the initiative, the High Commission and the ABAA hosted a special engagement on March 5 at the YASCO Sports Complex, where more than 60 young athletes met with several former Commonwealth Games competitors from Antigua and Barbuda.
During the session, the veteran athletes shared their experiences representing the country on the international stage, offering encouragement and insight to the next generation preparing to follow in their footsteps.
Addressing the young competitors, Commissioner Hamilton emphasized the significance of Antigua and Barbuda’s upcoming role on the international stage.

“Antigua and Barbuda will be hosting the prestigious Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting later this year,” Hamilton told the athletes. “You have demonstrated a strong interest in the work of the Commonwealth, the legacy of the Commonwealth Games, and the importance of collaboration across our nations. I hope the encouragement from athletes who have represented Antigua and Barbuda in the past will serve as inspiration in your own sporting journeys.”
The High Commission also provided support for the CARIFTA Trials, which were held on March 7 and 8 and attracted more than 150 athletes competing for places on Antigua and Barbuda’s CARIFTA team.
Organizers described the trials as highly competitive, with young athletes showcasing impressive talent and determination.
At the end of the event, participants received certificates recognizing their efforts along with informational materials about the Commonwealth and the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Hamilton also expressed appreciation to the Athletics Association for helping incorporate educational elements about the 56-member Commonwealth during the activities.
The initiative comes as Antigua and Barbuda prepares to host one of the most significant gatherings in the Commonwealth calendar — the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) scheduled for November 2026.
