The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) has released a list of important guidelines for voters ahead of the St. Philip North by-election scheduled for March 16, 2026.
The commission is encouraging residents to familiarize themselves with the “do’s and don’ts” to ensure the voting process runs smoothly and that all electors are able to cast their ballots without disruption.
According to ABEC, polling stations will open at 6:00 a.m. and close at 6:00 p.m. on election day. Voters are advised to arrive with their voter identification cards ready and carefully follow the instructions provided by the presiding officer at the polling station.
Electors are also reminded to pay close attention to the party symbols on the ballot and ensure they mark their choice for only one candidate. Individuals who are uncertain about the voting procedure are encouraged to ask election officials for clarification before submitting their ballot.
ABEC also outlined several restrictions designed to maintain order and fairness at polling stations.
Mobile phones and smart watches will be collected upon entry and will not be permitted in the voting area. The commission also warned that voters must avoid disruptive or disrespectful behavior while at polling stations.
In addition, electors are not allowed to wear party colours when visiting polling stations, and no election paraphernalia is permitted within 100 yards of a polling location.
The guidelines form part of the commission’s broader effort to ensure that the by-election is conducted in a transparent, orderly, and lawful manner.
Residents of St. Philip North are being encouraged to participate in the democratic process and adhere to the rules so that voting can proceed efficiently on election day.
