Police say their search is continuing for the truck driver who was captured on a hidden camera illegally dumping garbage in the Parham area.

Head of the Criminal Investigations Department, Assistant Commissioner Lisborn Michael, confirmed that the individual responsible has not yet been apprehended. However, he warned that once the suspect is located, he will be arrested and charged.

According to Michael, the camera footage clearly shows the licence plate of the truck involved, which investigators believe will be key in identifying the perpetrator.

Video footage obtained by Antigua.news reportedly shows a truck heavily loaded with garbage entering the area. Moments later, the vehicle is seen leaving the location empty. Shortly after the truck departs, piles of refuse can be seen scattered across the ground where it had stopped.

The incident has angered residents, who say they are frustrated by the repeated dumping of garbage in their community.

Member of Parliament for St. Peter, Rawdon Turner, has strongly condemned the act and is calling for swift action against those responsible.

“This kind of reckless and irresponsible behaviour will not be tolerated in St. Peter,” Turner said. “Our communities are not dumping grounds. The individuals responsible must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. We owe it to our residents, our children, and our country to protect our environment.”

Turner also warned that illegal dumping undermines national efforts to improve the country’s environmental standards and international image.

“All of us have a role to play. We cannot be talking about development and pride while a few individuals are destroying the very communities we are trying to uplift,” he added.

Authorities are urging anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact the police.
