Public Cemetery in St John’s

The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has announced a series of decisions aimed at improving public infrastructure, preserving national heritage, and strengthening the country’s agricultural sector.

One such decision is the official closure of the St John’s Public Cemetery. No new burials will take place there as of the end of March 2026.

Under the new policy, no new burial plots will be issued. However, families who already own tombs or burial spaces within the cemetery will still be allowed to inter relatives in those existing family burial sites.

The Cabinet says the measure is intended to address the growing space limitations while ensuring that families with established plots can continue to use them in accordance with longstanding traditions.
