Canadian National Charged After Cannabis Seizure at Airport

Canadian citizen, Roselynee Crisostomo

Police in Antigua and Barbuda have arrested and charged a Canadian national following the seizure of a large quantity of cannabis at V.C. Bird International Airport earlier this week.

Forty-eight-year-old Roselynee Crisostomo is facing several charges including possession of cannabis, possession of cannabis with intent to transfer, being concerned in the supplying of cannabis, drug trafficking, and importation of cannabis.

The charges stem from a joint drug interdiction operation carried out at the airport on Tuesday, March 10.

According to police, at about 4:30 p.m., officers from the Narcotics Department, along with members of the Special Services Unit (SSU), the K-9 Unit, and the Customs Enforcement Unit, conducted coordinated checks on arriving passengers.

During the operation, Crisostomo—who had arrived in Antigua on Air Canada flight AC1832 from Toronto—was stopped and searched by officers.

Police say two suitcases belonging to the accused were found to contain 61 vacuum-sealed packages of cannabis weighing a total of 67 pounds.

The drugs were seized and the woman was taken into custody. Authorities estimate the street value of the cannabis at approximately EC$536,000.

Crisostomo is expected to appear before the court at a later date as investigations continue.
