WATCH | “I’ve Exhausted All Options”: Grays Hill Resident Appeals for Road Fix After Truck Crashes Into Property

Grays Hill resident pleads for fixed road after truck crashes into her property

A resident of the Grays Hill community is calling on authorities to urgently repair a deteriorating roadway after a truck veered off the road and crashed into her property, causing damage to a parked vehicle and part of the home.

The incident, which was captured on video, shows the truck leaving the roadway and entering a residential driveway where it collided with the rear of a black sedan parked on the property. The vehicle then struck an outdoor air-conditioning condenser unit mounted along the side of the building.

The homeowner said she has repeatedly raised concerns about the poor condition of the road but claims her appeals have gone unanswered.

“I’ve exhausted all options trying to get my road fixed,” the woman said in a message accompanying the video. “I’ve reached out to public works on many occasions, I tried to fill the gaps myself as much as I can, but it seems only when its election or bi-election things get done.”

The resident said the crash could have been far worse if someone had been outside at the time.

“Attached is a video of my property being damaged today because the road is so horrible. God forbid myself, or someone else, was in the yard,” she said.

In her appeal, she called on Prime Minister Gaston Browne and Minister of Works Maria Browne to send a team to assess the condition of the road in the Grays Hill area.

Residents in several communities across Antigua and Barbuda have previously raised concerns about deteriorating roadways, particularly in hilly areas where damaged surfaces and potholes can pose safety risks for motorists and nearby homeowners.

The incident has renewed calls from residents for urgent attention to infrastructure issues before more serious accidents occur.

  1. This is clearly due to the speed and not the government. Yes the road may need fixing, but this is definitely the driver’s fault.

  2. The truck driver has to assume all responsibility. He came in your yard, your yard didn’t go out to him

  3. The camera clearly mounted in an area where it can only show you so much. The woman saying is not now she complaining, so it stands to reason her property has probably has close calls before, so trying to put it on the truckman is a bandaid on the wound. So stop being apart of the problem and allow people to call out authorities for now doing their duties! #tothepreviouscomments☝🏽
