Labour Party Sweeps St. Philip’s North: Randy Baltimore Claims Resounding By-Election Victory

Randy Baltimore has been elected as the MP for St. Philip’s North after by-election

The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party’s Randy Baltimore has delivered a decisive victory in Monday’s highly anticipated St. Philip’s North by-election, defeating United Progressive Party candidate Alex Browne in a closely watched contest.

Baltimore emerged as the clear winner after securing the majority of votes cast, (924) while Browne trailed behind in the polls only recieving (407) votes.

Voters turned out in strong numbers, with approximately 65 percent of the 1,998 registered voters in the constituency participating in the by-election.

After the results were announced Baltimore and Browne were seen exchanging brief remarks while shaking hands.

The by-election was called following the retirement of long-serving Member of Parliament Sir Robin Yearwood, who represented the constituency for decades before stepping down from active politics, leaving the parliamentary seat vacant.

The contest drew intense political attention, with both parties mounting energetic campaigns across the constituency in the days leading up to the vote.

With the victory, Baltimore now becomes the new representative for St. Philip’s North and is expected to contest the seat again under the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party banner in the next general elections, constitutionally due in 2028.

The outcome maintains the seat within the Labour Party’s column and reinforces the party’s political foothold in the constituency following Sir Robin Yearwood’s departure from frontline politics.

    • The UPP failed Alex Browne! He didn’t get much support from the party. In my opinion, Alex did well. Unity is strength!
