Buoyed by its decisive victory in the St. Philip’s North by-election, the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) is now turning its attention to internal preparations, with plans underway for a national convention in April 2026.

Prime Minister and Political Leader Gaston Browne confirmed the upcoming convention but did not specify an exact date. He has, however, called on party branches and affiliated groups to begin organizing ahead of the key event.

The convention is expected to play a critical role in shaping the party’s future, including the ratification of candidates for the next general elections, constitutionally due in 2028. Delegates will also elect senior leadership, including members of the executive committee and board of trustees.

As part of the preparatory process, all 17 constituency branches are tasked with selecting 15 official delegates each. These individuals will be responsible for voting on contested positions and key party decisions during the convention.
