Ministry of Health and Environment Welcomes New Environmental Awareness Group Board

The Ministry of Health and the Environment has extended congratulations to the newly appointed Board of Directors of the Environmental Awareness Group (EAG), commending the team as it begins its tenure.
In a statement, the Ministry offered what it described as “heartfelt” congratulations to all members, expressing confidence in their ability to continue advancing environmental protection and advocacy in Antigua and Barbuda.

Special recognition was given to Garth Simon of the Department of Environment, whose appointment to the Board was highlighted as a significant achievement. The Ministry praised Simon for his longstanding commitment to environmental protection, sustainable development, and national resilience, noting that his contributions have played an important role in strengthening the country’s environmental agenda.

The Environmental Awareness Group, established in 1988, remains one of Antigua and Barbuda’s leading non-governmental organisations dedicated to conservation and environmental awareness. Over the years, the organisation has been instrumental in biodiversity protection, environmental education, and ecosystem restoration.

Among its most notable efforts are offshore island restoration projects and the protection of endangered species, including the Antiguan racer snake, initiatives that have earned both regional and international recognition.

While acknowledging the collective expertise of the newly appointed Board, the Ministry underscored its optimism about the group’s continued impact. It also reaffirmed its support for the EAG’s work in safeguarding the country’s natural environment.

The Ministry concluded by wishing the Board success in its new role and expressed its anticipation of continued progress in preserving Antigua and Barbuda’s ecosystems for future generations.
