Member of Parliament for Rural West, Richard Lewis, has moved to provide temporary relief to residents of Gray’s Hill as frustration grows over longstanding concerns about deteriorating road conditions in the area.
Lewis, representing the United Progressive Party, said the cries of residents have gone unanswered for far too long, with repeated calls for repairs failing to bring meaningful action from the authorities. According to the MP, the condition of the roadway has posed ongoing risks to both motorists and pedestrians.

In response, Lewis said he took steps to assist residents by facilitating temporary work on sections of the road, offering what he described as some immediate, albeit short-term, relief.
“I will continue to lobby for a permanent fix,” Lewis stated, reaffirming his commitment to addressing the issue and pushing for comprehensive roadworks in the community.

His intervention comes on the heels of a recent incident that has further heightened concern among residents. A truck reportedly veered off the roadway and crashed into a residential property in Gray’s Hill, damaging a parked vehicle and part of the home. The crash, which was captured on video, underscored the dangers residents say they face daily due to the poor state of the road.
The homeowner involved in the incident had previously raised concerns about the roadway, noting that repeated appeals for repairs had not been addressed. She indicated that the crash could have had far more serious consequences had anyone been in the yard at the time.

Residents say the incident has brought renewed urgency to their calls for action, with many pointing to the need for immediate and lasting improvements to the road network in the area.
Lewis’ recent efforts have been welcomed by some as a step in the right direction, but residents maintain that only a permanent solution will adequately address the risks and ongoing challenges they face.
