The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) has announced a structured programme to facilitate the replacement of expired voter’s identification cards, as the country prepares for upcoming electoral activities.
According to information released by the Commission, the replacement service will be available Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at registration units across constituencies.
ABEC is urging all eligible voters with expired identification cards to visit the registration unit where their names are listed on the electoral register to begin the replacement process.
To complete the application, individuals must present:
• Their expired voter’s ID card
• A valid government-issued ID
• Supporting documents for any change in marital status
• Proof of address (residency verification may be conducted)
For persons who have lost their expired voter’s ID, the Commission advises that a valid government-issued ID must be presented to proceed.
As part of the process, applicants’ demographic information may be updated, including a new photograph and signature, along with fingerprint validation. ABEC noted that replacement cards will be ready within approximately two weeks of application and must be collected from the respective constituency registration unit.
The Commission also stated that expired cards will be retained by registration officers once new cards are issued.
The initiative comes amid heightened focus on voter readiness, with authorities encouraging citizens to ensure their documentation is up to date ahead of any potential elections.
