Canadian national busted trying to import 26 pounds of cannabis

The police have apprehended and charged a Canadian national in connection with the importation of a substantial quantity of cannabis at V.C. Bird International Airport.

On Saturday, March 21, at approximately 4:00 p.m., officers from the Narcotics Department, alongside members of the K-9 Unit and the Customs Enforcement Unit, executed a joint drug interdiction operation at the airport.

During this operation, officers were alerted to a silver suitcase belonging to 23-year-old Semand Vivan Shammo Aljndo, who had arrived in Antigua on Air Canada flight AC1832 from Toronto.

The search uncovered a total of twenty-six (26) vacuum-sealed packages containing the controlled substance cannabis. The packages were confiscated, and the suspect was taken into custody and transported to Police Headquarters for further investigation.

The total weight of the substance was twenty-six (26) pounds, with an estimated street value of $208,000.00 ECC.

He is expected to face charges related to drug offences.

The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda is intensifying efforts at all entry points to combat the illegal importation and trafficking of controlled substances.

The Police Administration also reminds the public that stringent enforcement measures are in place to deter and prosecute individuals involved in drug-related activities.

Anyone with information regarding drug trafficking or other criminal activities is encouraged to reach out to the Narcotics Department or call the Crimestoppers anonymous hotline at 800-8477.
