Students, teachers, and faculty from The University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus and the Five Islands Primary School turned out in strong numbers on Sunday morning for the second annual 5K Run/Walk, reinforcing a shared commitment to health, wellness, and education.
The event, held in partnership between the two institutions, continues to grow as a community-driven initiative aimed at promoting active lifestyles while raising funds to support student scholarships and school programmes within the Five Islands community.
Principal of The UWI Five Islands Campus, Professor C. Justin Robinson, emphasized that the initiative goes beyond fitness.

The run/walk forms part of a broader push by the campus to encourage healthier living, building on previous initiatives such as its “No Sugar November” campaign and a New Year’s step challenge that motivated participants to reach daily targets of between 5,000 and 15,000 steps.
Principal of the Five Islands Primary School, Alden James, highlighted the importance of the ongoing partnership and its impact on students.
Organizers say the continued success of the 5K reflects growing community engagement and a shared vision of improving both educational opportunities and overall well-being in the Five Islands area.
