Herberts Man Charged After Allegedly Smoking Cannabis Near School

24 March 2026 - 10:12

A Herberts man has been arrested and charged after police reportedly caught him smoking cannabis in a public area near a primary school.

Jamie Darroux was taken into custody around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 23, during a mobile patrol by officers attached to the Narcotics Department in the vicinity of Potters Primary School.

According to police, officers observed Darroux allegedly smoking cannabis in a public space. He was subsequently apprehended and later charged with smoking cannabis in a public place and possession of cannabis.

He is expected to appear before the court at a later date.

Police are reminding the public that under the Tobacco Control Act, 2018, and the Misuse of Drugs (Amendment) Act, 2024, smoking tobacco or cannabis is prohibited in a wide range of public spaces, including schools, workplaces, public transportation, restaurants, and government buildings.

Authorities warn that anyone found smoking cannabis in a public place, or allowing its use or distribution on such premises, can face a fine of up to EC$2,000 upon summary conviction.

The Police Administration is urging residents to adhere to the law and avoid engaging in illegal activities.

    • I have a theory. The people who can’t stand the smell of cannabis, is simply demon possessed. Its the evil, miserableness, in their soul that wants to get away from the fragrance of the divine.

But the real reason “they” doing this ,is because of money. “Them” always want more and more money to misappropriate……allegedly of course.

    • I agree with you to respect the children and non-smokers. He needs to go to his yard and smoke. Some of them are overdoing this smoking openly in public. A lot of bars are going to lose business when customers can’t smoke in them.
