Canadian national busted trying to import 26 pounds of cannabis

A young Canadian traveller has been held in custody after authorities at V.C. Bird International Airport uncovered a large quantity of cannabis concealed in his luggage.

Semand Vivan Shammo Aljndo, 23, arrived in Antigua on March 21 aboard an Air Canada flight from Toronto. During a coordinated inspection involving narcotics officers, customs officials, and a K-9 unit, his suitcase was flagged for further examination.

Inside, officers found 26 vacuum-sealed packages containing cannabis. The drugs carry an estimated street value of $208,000 ECC.

Aljndo appeared before the court and was denied bail after being assessed as a flight risk. He now faces multiple charges, including drug trafficking, importation, and possession with intent to distribute. His case is scheduled to return to court on May 13, 2026, for committal proceedings. He is represented by attorney Michael Archibald.

The arrest follows a similar incident earlier this month involving another Canadian passenger on the same Toronto route. Roselynee Crisostomo, 48, was detained after authorities discovered more than 67 pounds of cannabis in her luggage, valued at nearly $536,000 ECC.

She also remains in custody after being denied bail and is due to appear in court on the same date as Aljndo.
