Two Men Charged with Unlawful Possession of Cannabis in Separate Incidents

A 40-year-old woman from the United States has pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis after being stopped at VC Bird International Airport in Antigua while preparing to leave the island.

Keishell Labeach, who was on the island visiting relatives, was flagged by security personnel at the oversized baggage section this week. Airport police were alerted and responded to the scene, where they discovered several items containing cannabis in her luggage. The drugs, which included transparent bags, capsules, and Ziploc packets, weighed a total of 163.4 grams and were estimated to be worth $1,634.

Labeach appeared in court before Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel, where she admitted to the offense. Her lawyer, Wendel Alexander, told the court that the cannabis had been unintentionally left in her suitcase. He also noted that she is four months pregnant and has Antiguan roots.

The court upheld her existing bail set at $2,500, requiring two sureties but no upfront cash payment. Authorities have also retained her passport. The matter is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on Monday.
