Veteran parliamentarian Sir Molwyn Joseph has firmly dismissed speculation that he was forced out of frontline politics, declaring that his decision to step away was deeply personal and rooted in family and reflection.

Sir Molwyn Joseph has pushed back against opposition claims that he was sidelined by Prime Minister Gaston Browne and the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP), making it clear that his departure from Parliament was entirely his own decision.

Speaking during what he confirmed would be his final address in Parliament, Joseph rejected the narrative that he had been pushed aside, instead pointing to a period of personal reflection and family consideration after more than 40 years in public service.

“I made a decision on the basis of a balance of who I am right now and the position of my family,” he said, emphasizing that the move was carefully thought out and not politically driven.

Addressing rumours directly, Joseph underscored his longstanding relationship with Prime Minister Browne, describing it as one built on mutual respect and collaboration dating back to the early days of Browne’s political career.

“But little do you know that the prime minister and I have had a relationship… very early in his political career, and we collaborated,” he said. “I can say publicly, I do not have a problem getting the attention of the prime minister and getting the support of the prime minister.”

The seasoned politician, who has won eight elections and held multiple ministerial portfolios, reflected on his decades in public life as both rewarding and instructive.

He said his departure comes at a time when Antigua and Barbuda has seen significant national development, particularly over the past decade, and stressed the importance of orderly leadership transition.

Despite stepping away from parliamentary duties, Joseph made it clear he is not exiting political life entirely and will remain loyal to the ABLP.

“I’m not being in Parliament, but I will be sticking to this party,” he declared.
