Prime Minister Gaston Browne has pledged to bring an amnesty proposal for disconnected APUA customers to Cabinet, after the issue was raised live on the Browne and Browne Show on Saturday.

The commitment came in response to a WhatsApp message sent in during the programme, asking whether households that had been disconnected from the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) would receive relief.

Browne agreed on the spot, stating he would place the matter before cabinet the following week.

The announcement is expected to benefit a significant number of households across Antigua and Barbuda who have had their electricity or water services cut due to outstanding bills. No specific terms of the amnesty were outlined at the time of the broadcast, with those details to be determined through the cabinet process.

The live commitment adds to a series of economic relief measures the Prime Minister has announced in the lead-up to the general election, including a minimum wage increase from $9.00 to $11.50, public servant salary increases of 5%, pension adjustments, and the clearing of retroactive pay backlogs.
