In a strong and deliberate statement during his farewell address in Parliament, Sir Molwyn Joseph threw his full support behind Dr. Philmore Benjamin, urging constituents to unite behind the candidate as the next representative for St. Mary’s North.

“I am in total support of Dr Benjamin — total support,” Joseph declared, leaving no room for doubt about his position.

The veteran parliamentarian, who has served the constituency for decades, described Dr. Benjamin as a deeply rooted, grassroots figure with a clear understanding of the people and their needs.

He pointed to the candidate’s strong presence across communities—from Jennings to Ebenezer and surrounding areas—saying this connection makes him well-positioned to continue the constituency’s work and development.

Joseph also moved to shut down speculation that Dr. Benjamin was imposed by party leadership, stressing that data and public support drove the selection.

“He was not handpicked. He was selected based on a scientific poll,” he emphasized.

Significantly, Sir Molwyn signaled that his departure from frontline politics does not mean a complete exit from public life. He pledged to remain active within the constituency, working alongside Dr. Benjamin and encouraging residents to support a smooth transition.

His endorsement now sets the tone for what is expected to be a closely watched political contest, with continuity, experience, and community connection emerging as central themes in the race for St. Mary’s North.
