Prime Minister Gaston Browne has pushed back against claims that the surge in road repairs across Antigua and Barbuda is tied to the upcoming general election, insisting the works will continue well beyond the polls.
Speaking on his radio programme on Saturday evening, Browne said the government’s intensified efforts to improve road conditions nationwide are part of an ongoing development plan—not a short-term election strategy.
In recent weeks, residents have taken note of the widespread roadworks taking place across the island, with some suggesting the timing is politically motivated. However, the Prime Minister dismissed those concerns, maintaining that infrastructure upgrades remain a priority for his administration regardless of the election cycle.
He emphasized that the road rehabilitation programme is designed to address long-standing issues and will continue after the general election, as the government moves to modernize the country’s road network and improve driving conditions for residents.

I hope you guys live up to this. Often get a pause on everything when election is over.
