St. John’s Rural East MP and ABLP candidate Maria Bird Browne is positioning growth and community renewal as central pillars of her re-election campaign, pointing to both progress made and ambitious plans ahead for the constituency.
In an interview with Antigua.news, Browne, the wife of Prime Minister Gaston Browne says residents have already seen meaningful improvements over the past two years, particularly in roadworks and community infrastructure, as part of a broader push to modernize the area.
A major focus going forward will be addressing long-standing drainage and flooding issues in communities such as the Gardens and Sutherland.
Browne revealed that technical assessments, including input from hydrology experts, are expected to guide the installation of more effective drainage systems.
In tandem with infrastructure upgrades, she is also advancing plans for a housing renewal initiative aimed at revitalizing older neighborhoods. The programme is expected to transform abandoned or underutilized lands into opportunities for new home construction—an approach Browne says will uplift entire communities.

At the end of the day, voters will judge her not just on promises but on progress made over the past term. The campaign seems well thought out, but delivery is key.
