Sir Lester Bird Medical Center

Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) is urging former employees—both locally and abroad—to come forward and claim retroactive payments, including a final 9 percent salary increase and outstanding risk allowances covering periods between 2010 and 2024.

In a public notice issued on April 11, 2026, the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (formerly Mount St. John’s Medical Centre) said the move is aimed at ensuring all eligible former staff receive benefits owed to them, particularly those no longer reachable through internal systems.

The hospital said the payments include two key components: a final retroactive payment tied to a 9 percent salary increase and retroactive risk allowance payments for earlier years.

Former employees who worked between January 1, 2019 and January 31, 2024 may qualify for the outstanding balance of the 9 percent salary increase. However, SLBMC noted that any previous payments made toward this amount will be deducted from the final total.

To qualify, individuals must have been employed after January 1, 2019 and held a permanent position during that period.
Additionally, former workers employed between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2019 who did not receive a risk allowance at the time may also be eligible for retroactive payments under that category.

SLBMC emphasized that many former employees may now be overseas or otherwise out of contact, and is appealing to the public and media to help spread the information.

Eligible individuals are required to submit inquiries via email to [email protected], using the subject line: First Name Last Name – Retroactive Payment Inquiry (Risk Allowance/9% Increase).

The hospital outlined specific instructions for payment processing. Former employees residing in Antigua will receive payments by cheque and must present valid government-issued identification when collecting.

Those living overseas will be paid via bank transfer and must submit detailed banking and identification information, including account numbers, SWIFT or routing codes, and correspondent bank details.

SLBMC said timelines for payments and collection will be communicated directly to claimants once their information has been verified.

The institution expressed gratitude to former employees for their service and thanked them for their patience as the payment process continues.
