Janela Evanson

The Antigua and Barbuda Public Service Association (ABPSA) has installed a new executive committee to manage its affairs and chart the organization’s direction over the next 12 months.

The new leadership team was elected during the association’s annual general meeting held last week, ushering in a change at the helm.

Janela Evanson has been elected president, succeeding outgoing president Joan Peters, who opted not to seek another term. Evanson brings experience to the role, having served as general secretary in recent years.

She will be supported by a team of returning and newly elected officers. Jannelle Wehner-Watts has been re-elected as vice-president, while Karis George assumes the role of general secretary. Sandra Benta-Richards has been elected treasurer.

Additional members of the executive committee include Dr. Janelle O’Mard, Dr. Desiree Antonio, Orrin Steele, Jenique Joseph, and Garolyn Cornelius-Hector.

The association also confirmed several shop stewards to represent workers across various workplaces. Those elected are Onesha Elvin, Jeannette Mason, Sabrina Carlisle, Craig Martin, Delma Jules-St. Agnes, and Verlyn Charles, who was re-elected.

Meanwhile, Kerry-Ann Mussington and Adrian Julian will serve as trustees.

The newly elected executive is expected to lead the ABPSA’s advocacy efforts and strengthen representation for public sector workers in Antigua and Barbuda over the coming year.

  2. Congratulations to the new president and team. The real work starts now, public servants need stronger representation more than ever.

  3. Congratulations are in order, but let’s be honest, public servants have been under pressure for a long time. This new executive cannot afford to be passive. We need strong representation, transparency, and consistent communication. No more silence when issues arise.
