Motorists in St. John’s are facing a surge in tickets as traffic police ramp up efforts to clamp down on illegal parking across the capital.

Officers have been actively patrolling key areas of the city, issuing fines to drivers who park in no-parking zones, block sidewalks, or obstruct intersections. The increased enforcement comes as authorities raise concern over worsening traffic congestion and pedestrian safety.

Antigua.news moving through the city this week reported seeing multiple vehicles being ticketed within short periods, particularly along busy commercial streets where parking demand remains high.

Police say the crackdown is necessary to restore order and ensure the smooth flow of traffic, especially during peak hours when the streets of St. John’s become heavily congested. They also warned that continued violations could lead to stricter measures, including towing in some cases.

Despite the enforcement push, some drivers argue that the root of the problem lies in the lack of adequate parking in the capital. With limited spaces available, particularly during the daytime rush, many say they are left with few options.

Still, authorities are urging motorists to comply with traffic laws, stressing that illegal parking not only disrupts traffic but can also endanger other road users.

The police presence is expected to remain heightened in the coming days as part of ongoing efforts to address the issue.

  2. This is the best thing yet. its crazy when you can barely get through roads because of how people decide to park. making some spaces so small! this shouldn’t be done for the city alone. ALL OVER

  3. Police issuing tickets is one thing, but where exactly are people supposed to park during the day? The real issue is the lack of proper parking spaces in the city. If the police and the government, then they will be no need of issuing tickets. But, y’all want our little money plus tax. hmmmmm. WE NEED A CHANGE.
