Attorney General Steadroy “Cutie” Benjamin has committed to bringing the first law school to Antigua and Barbuda, allowing students to complete their full legal training at home rather than travelling abroad to qualify as attorneys.
Speaking about his priorities under the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party’s 2026-2031 manifesto, Benjamin said the law school would serve not only local students but those across the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
Benjamin linked the initiative to his own experience of having to travel to England for legal training, saying he would not allow young people in the country to face those same difficulties.
He described the law school as the next step in a progression that began with bringing the University of the West Indies to Antigua and, more recently, introducing a law degree programme at the institution from September.
The Attorney General framed the initiative as part of a broader effort to expand opportunities for qualified citizens.

It would be a higher burden off some parents back
We have heard sweeter sounds coming from the lover man Cutie
If they do it properly and get proper accreditation, students from all over OECS will come here
This would be a game changer for young people. Law school right here at home? That’s progress
Finally! This is long overdue. Not everybody can afford go England or even Trinidad to study law.
Big move if it actually happen. We already have UWI here, so why not complete the whole thing?
